A popular annual event, the Buffalo Gap Historic Village collaborates with the Center of Contemporary Arts in Abilene and area school districts for this family-friendly festival. Students from 1st to 12th grade make scarecrows, following a theme selected each year. The scarecrows are displayed on a Saturday in November at the Village. There is all the fall-festival rituals—lawn games, face painting, arts and crafts, food vendors, and music. Be watching here for updates on this year’s theme and date for the festival.

Our Christmas Tea, hosted in the Rode Arts Gallery, features Sue Wood, the “English Tea Gramma”. West Texas settlers often tried to hold on to their traditions of a “formal tea” — especially around the holidays —even though their new surroundings weren’t Victorian. Guest are able to sip a variety of teas and enjoy all the delicacies served at high tea while learning about the age-old-custom.
